Fabric Covered Buttons

Fabric covered buttons are so fun and versatile. They add a nice finishing detail and make great gifts! With an open mind and a hint of creativity, you will no doubt surprise yourself with what you will create.

Pictured above are the various style backings that can be used to create your fabric covered button.  It all depends upon what you want to do with it.

Button Backs

Key Chain – This style back has a ring that securely attaches your keys to this button. You can attach this to so many things. I used this back to attach a personalized button to my dog’s collar! Pull Tab - This is a small bendable metal clip that fits perfectly on a variety of zippers. You can even use it to customize harnesses for small dogs, a small keychain, necklace, gift tag, etc. Pin Back – A stick pin back that has a little clasp to secure it in place. Your button can be made so that it pins horizontally (left) or vertically (right). You can quickly add some pizzazz to anything a pin can go through. Flat – This style features a smooth metal surface. As is, you can easily apply an adhesive to the back and stick it to any surface. Alternatively, you may wish to get a magnet applied to the back. Hole Back – A plain back button that has a hole drilled in the center. While this button is being created, one of the following accessories can be inserted in this hole to make it fit your needs: Thumb tack, Thumb Tack & Back or Shank. Push Pin – With this optional accessory convert your button into a trendy push pin. Back – Turn your push pin into a very secure pin by adding this back. Shank – This loop is inserted during production and turns your button into a shank style button. You can also insert a small pony tail elastic and voila, a custom hair piece. You can even turn your button into a necklace! Brad – The brad is similar to those found in envelopes, but more sturdy. It is inserted during production and adds another clever way to secure your button to a project. I made custom cuff link using brads. You could even use this to secure a handmade Unfinished Front - Unfinished button measures 1.5"
